Recently, images of a brightly colored, three-walled sailboat with its sails billowing in the wind unexpectedly appeared in Ha Long Bay, attracting the attention of locals and tourists alike. Many felt like they were reliving their childhood when this type of traditional vessel still operated in Ha Long Bay.

Three-walled sailing boats were once a familiar means of transportation for fishermen in the ancient fishing villages on Ha Long Bay.

For a long time, this type of boat has been absent from the bay, much to the regret of tourists. Currently, this model of the boat is on display at the Quang Ninh Museum.

According to a representative of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, these sailboats were built and designed by the only three-walled boat builder in Quang Ninh, based on the prototype of ancient boats from the Quang Yen region.

In the 1990s, three-walled boats were very popular in Ha Long Bay, but today they are no longer operating in the bay.

In the context of developing tourism linked to culture, exploiting the distinctive cultural features of Ha Long Bay through the image of ancient sailing boats is expected to enhance the experience for tourists exploring the heritage bay.

The boats stand out with their bat-wing-shaped sails, traditionally dyed a dark brown. Newer boats, however, feature a deep red color that makes them more striking against the green backdrop of the rocky mountains.

Currently, these three red sailboats are operating along the coast, serving the Flower and Light Technology Boulevard in Ha Long Bay, which takes place from February 14th to 22nd.

According to local tourism professionals, the brown sailing boats were once a beautiful and distinctive image that attracted and encouraged tourists to return to Ha Long Bay. The return of this traditional type of boat will create a new experience for tourists in the future.

It is expected that 10 boats will be put into operation after the Lunar New Year. These boats will serve tourists who want to explore the coastal area, take photos, and discover the local fishing village culture.
