Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of February 6th, Dr. Pham Quoc Hung, who directly examined and supervised the surgery of footballer Nguyen Thai Son, said that the operation was successfully completed at 9:45 AM.
At Van Hanh General Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City), Thai Son underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in his right knee and meniscal repair in his right medial and lateral meniscus. Thai Son is in good vital signs after surgery and has no adverse reactions.
Thai Son will wait a few days for post-operative monitoring before entering the rehabilitation phase following a specialized protocol for ligament injuries.
According to Doctor Hung's assessment, similar to Hieu Minh, Thai Son needs about 8-9 months to be able to train again. Meanwhile, the time to compete professionally could extend from 9-10 months, depending on the response to treatment and the recovery process.
Thai Son suffered an injury during the Ninh Binh vs. Hanoi Police match in Round 12 of the V-League 2025-2026, which took place on the evening of February 1st at Hang Day Stadium. This is unfortunate for Thai Son, as he is a promising midfielder for the Vietnamese national team.
After two very successful tournaments with the Vietnam U23 team at the SEA Games 33 and the 2026 U23 Asian Championship, Thai Son left Thanh Hoa Club to join Ninh Binh team with the goal of competing for the V-League championship.
This injury means Thai Son will miss the ASEAN Cup 2026, a tournament where coach Kim Sang Sik will likely promote many members of the U23 team to play for the national team.
