Every evening, the loudspeaker would blare: “Dear villagers and students, there are only fifteen minutes left until evening classes begin. Students are requested to return home quickly, prepare their books and school supplies, sit down at their desks, and concentrate on reviewing and completing their assignments. Parents are requested to pay attention, remind, and create conditions for their children to study on time, and to cooperate with the school, the Youth Union, and the commune police in managing their children during and outside of school hours…”
This is also the moment when Tran Xuan Duong, a 7th-grade student at Cao Thang Primary and Secondary School in Cao Duong commune, voluntarily sits down to study. Duong shared that before, he used to be preoccupied with playing games, either on his phone or running to the internet cafe at the beginning of the village. Now, after being reminded by the Youth Union and the commune police, he voluntarily sits down to study whenever the loudspeaker announces his attendance.
Just like Duong, after dinner, upon hearing the announcement from the loudspeaker, Phan Quynh Nhu, a 5th-grade student at Cao Duong Primary School, prepares her books and does her homework. “Before, sometimes I would be distracted by playing, watching TV, or going out to play with friends at this time, but now, as soon as I hear the loudspeaker, I know it’s time to study. I find the whole neighborhood quiet, making it easier to concentrate on studying,” Quynh Nhu shared.
Nguyen Dinh Loi, Party Secretary and Head of Dong Ke village, Cao Duong commune, said: "Since the 'Learning through loudspeakers' model was implemented, evenings in the villages and hamlets here have become quieter. Families now give up their space for children to concentrate on studying. This is a good model that is proving effective in spreading the spirit of self-directed learning in the community..."
From a simple reminder over the loudspeaker, "study time" has gradually become a common practice for the entire community. The "study time announcement" has become a familiar signal, helping children proactively organize their study time more effectively . According to Nguyen Thi Binh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Cao Duong commune, this model is not new, but it is an innovative approach to promoting education and talent development in the commune. The local authorities have established a study schedule at home for children, reminding them to sit down and study every Monday to Friday evening through the public address system.
To ensure the movement became well-organized, the Youth Union, the commune police, schools in the area, and the parent-teacher association... closely coordinated to form working groups and task forces to inspect and remind students with behavioral problems to improve their study habits; to monitor their learning situation at home, and to promptly encourage and support students in difficult circumstances. As a result, students' home learning became more organized, reducing the number of students gathering on the streets at night and neglecting their studies.
The "Study Announcement System" model in Cao Duong not only helps students develop self-discipline but also strengthens bonds among family members, and between families, schools, and society. Implementing this model has become a simple, effective, and community-oriented approach. The "Study Announcement System" has become an integral part of the cultural life of the people of Cao Duong commune, encouraging a spirit of learning, nurturing dreams, and igniting faith in a generation of diligent and academically successful students, contributing to building a prosperous and beautiful homeland.
