Creative space - as defined by the British Council - an international organization for cultural relations and education of the United Kingdom, is a physical or online place - a place that connects creative practitioners such as musicians, painters, designers, filmmakers, photographers, music artists, entrepreneurs working in the creative industry - a place for artists to introduce their works and test new creative ideas, and also a place to attract the community to participate in artistic activities. Da Lat - in recent years has transformed into a new destination for artistic activities. Many famous domestic and international artists have chosen Da Lat as their place to experience art. Many private creative spaces have also appeared in Da Lat. Pho Ben Doi - one of the first private creative art spaces in Da Lat. This place regularly organizes cultural and artistic events: music performances, painting and photography exhibitions, black and white photography workshops, short film roundtables, sketching... The activities of Pho Ben Doi have inspired many other private creative spaces to be born later: Stop and Go Artspace (88 Ly Tu Trong Street), Le Lycée Artspace (2 Le Lai Street), Youi's Artspace (100 Dan Kia Street), DAT Artspace (3/5A Yersin Street)...
Visual artist Phan Quang - founder of Stop and Go Artspace confided that, when bringing culture and art into life, it is not only to bring beauty to the community, but also to arouse and nurture creativity in the community, contributing to enriching the spiritual life of the community. Besides hard activities (exhibitions of paintings - statues - photos - installations), Stop and Go Artspace also organizes art talks, art events, as well as organizing creative practice programs on architecture, cinema, photography, painting, sculpture, fashion... Mr. Phan Duc Minh - an economic expert shared: "Once life develops, tourists' priority will be to experience cultural and artistic life. At that time, the space for creative art is the place tourists choose to live with culture and art". Economist Phan Duc Minh believes that the creative art space is a place where startups in the art field can completely seek investment opportunities. Because that space is already a creative ecosystem - where artists, communities, and investors regularly exchange skills, share ideas, and support each other technically in creative art programs.
Le Lycée Artspace - the art exhibitions have become a brand, attracting the attention of domestic and foreign tourists to experience. According to curator Nguyen Nhu Huy, he chose Le Lycée Artspace as the place to exhibit paintings by famous painter Nguyen Tu Nghiem because of its "antique and elegance". Youi's Artspace is also contributing to renewing the community's approach to art. There, everyone can be a creator and the creator is also an audience. Associate Professor, Dr. Do Thi Thanh Thuy, Vietnam Institute of Culture - Arts - Sports and Tourism, commented that private art creation spaces in Da Lat have affirmed their role in promoting artistic creation and diversifying local cultural and artistic life.
The enthusiasm of the founders of private creative art spaces in Da Lat is undeniable. However, as mentioned above, these creative art spaces are mostly personal initiatives, the enthusiasm of a group of people with the same aspirations. That is also the reason why creative art spaces in Da Lat are only truly bustling when individual efforts overcome economic obstacles. From that reality, Master Huynh Ho Dai Nghia suggested the need to establish a creative support fund for connection and creative activities in private creative art spaces. This fund operates according to a mechanism of direct support, quick and timely disbursement for creative ideas to join hands in developing creative art spaces. Of course, creative ideas are always risky, but that does not mean being afraid to invest in and support new creative ideas.
