On the afternoon of February 18th, the Ministry of Finance issued a document forecasting and proposing measures to manage and stabilize prices during and after the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse 2026.

The Ministry of Finance stated that the first quarter coincides with many year-end festivals and the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), and prices typically fluctuate upwards before and after the holiday.

January is a festive month, so the prices of goods and services related to food, entertainment, and transportation will increase.

The following Lunar New Year holidays may see localized price increases at local markets for fresh food and flowers.

As a rule, the prices of some essential goods tend to increase slightly during the Lunar New Year holiday and then gradually return to normal after the holiday.

In several provinces and major cities, many supermarkets and stores plan to reopen soon to serve the shopping needs of essential goods. With the supply chain no longer disrupted, the demand for goods will be fully met.

Furthermore, the experience and steadfast commitment of the National Assembly and the Government in their policy of macroeconomic stability and inflation control have helped to strengthen the confidence of businesses and the people, thereby stabilizing inflation expectations.

Furthermore, the fact that consumer demand and purchasing power have not yet recovered means that overall demand is recovering slowly, and people tend to save on spending, which is also a factor preventing significant price fluctuations.

Regarding market price trends before and during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the Ministry of Finance stated that during the peak shopping period, from the 23rd to the 28th of the twelfth lunar month, purchasing power increased sharply, and the number of customers at supermarkets and shopping malls was 30-50% higher than usual.

The most popular consumer goods include food, fresh produce, confectionery, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, fresh flowers, ornamental plants, and gifts. Prices of some fresh food items increased slightly by 5-10% according to the law of supply and demand, but the supply remains secure.
