According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , thanks to the close and decisive direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, along with the proactive and responsible involvement of ministries and agencies, Vietnam's export activities in 2025 will continue to record positive growth results, despite the volatile international economic and trade context.
According to statistics, Vietnam's export turnover to the world in 2025 is estimated to reach approximately 475 billion USD, an increase of 17% compared to 2024. This result reflects the collective efforts of the entire political system in managing the macroeconomy, promoting market opening, facilitating trade, and promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles arising for export businesses.
In the context of global supply chains being significantly impacted, the Government and the Prime Minister have consistently directed ministries and agencies to closely monitor the situation, proactively and quickly address emerging issues in import and export activities, and consider protecting the legitimate rights and interests of businesses as a central task in economic management and economic diplomacy.
Following the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proactively coordinated closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies, strengthening cooperation with foreign partners to promptly resolve obstacles in trade practices, preventing prolonged impacts on the production and export activities of Vietnamese businesses.
A prime example of this proactive, decisive, and substantive approach is the handling of the recent backlog involving nearly 500 containers of tea exported by Vietnamese businesses to Afghanistan, transiting through Karachi port (Pakistan). This complex and unexpected incident caused significant losses for businesses due to increased storage and warehousing costs and the potential impact on product quality.
Immediately after receiving feedback from businesses, industry associations, and reports from relevant agencies, the Government and the Prime Minister paid special attention and directly instructed relevant ministries and agencies to promptly investigate and coordinate closely with Pakistan to clarify the causes, review jurisdiction, and find appropriate solutions, with the spirit of providing maximum support to Vietnamese businesses. The Prime Minister sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, requesting attention and direction to relevant Pakistani agencies to promptly resolve the issue; at the same time, both sides arranged for the Vietnamese Prime Minister to hold a direct telephone conversation with the Pakistani Prime Minister to promote a definitive resolution of the matter.
Following the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proactively took the lead in coordinating closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, directing the Vietnamese representative offices in Pakistan and the Vietnamese Trade Offices in Pakistan to strengthen direct cooperation with relevant Pakistani authorities. During the process, relevant agencies from both sides continuously exchanged information at multiple levels, comprehensively reviewed regulations, clarified the causes of congestion, clearly defined the jurisdictions of Pakistani agencies, and agreed on a flexible solution that conformed to legal regulations and international practices, ensuring a balance of interests for all parties involved.
Based on these continuous efforts and close coordination, on December 31, 2025, Pakistan officially responded, allowing the processing and release of Vietnamese businesses' tea containers according to a suitable plan. This decision facilitates Vietnamese businesses in carrying out the necessary procedures to move their goods out of the port, minimizing cost losses, preserving product quality, and contributing to stabilizing the businesses' morale and business plans.
The timely resolution of obstacles for tea shipments not only directly supports export businesses and domestic tea growers, but also clearly affirms the close, flexible, and effective management role of the Government and the Prime Minister, as well as the responsibility, efforts, and spirit of partnership with businesses of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries and agencies in handling issues arising in international trade activities.
