The workshop "Promoting credit for key agricultural products, bringing the Mekong Delta to rapid and sustainable development" took place in Can Tho City this morning (November 18).
In her opening speech, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Representative Newspaper Pham Thi Thanh Huyen shared that this workshop aims to "find effective solutions to promote credit for key agricultural products in the Mekong Delta".
According to Ms. Huyen, with its special position as the country's key agricultural production region, the Mekong Delta has affirmed its role, contributing great value to the national economy and ensuring food security for the country. However, this region is also facing countless challenges, including access to capital.
Ms. Huyen said that in recent times, the banking sector has implemented many solutions and policies to accompany and support the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region, especially key products and industries. However, businesses still face many difficulties in accessing capital.
Some credit policies serving agricultural and rural development have not met expectations. For example, loans without collateral only account for about 20% of outstanding agricultural and rural loans...
Speaking at the workshop, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - Mr. Tran Viet Truong said that accessing credit sources to develop key agricultural products in the Mekong Delta is currently facing many difficulties such as: risks - natural disasters - climate change.
These risks make credit institutions hesitant to lend, because the agricultural industry here depends heavily on weather and nature.
According to Mr. Truong, removing difficulties to promote credit for key agricultural products of the Mekong Delta is important in realizing the goals of Resolution 13 of the Politburo. This will contribute to restructuring the region's agricultural sector in depth, bringing the Mekong Delta to rapid and sustainable development.
In addition, at the workshop, delegates also participated in two discussion sessions "Credit for key agricultural products of the Mekong Delta - From policy to implementation" and "Accelerating credit for key agricultural products of the Mekong Delta".
