34 victims of shipwreck in Ha Long Bay found, 5 crew members still missing

Information from the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province late on July 19 said that by around 9 p.m., authorities had rescued 12 people and found 34 bodies of victims in the shipwreck in Ha Long Bay.

The Search and Rescue Steering Committee of Quang Ninh province mobilized many professional divers at night to participate in the search for missing victims.

The sunken ship QN – 7105, with a capacity of 48 passengers, 3 floors high, owned by Mr. Doan Van Trinh (residing in Quang Ninh). At the time of the accident, there were 53 people on board, including 5 crew members and 48 passengers (residing in Cau Giay, Hanoi ).

After being hit by the storm, the ship basically sank, leaving only the bottom of the ship. The group of divers approached from many directions to get into the compartment. Meanwhile, other forces were trying to turn the ship over, with the support of a crane barge.

Quang Ninh Provincial Police coordinated with divers to urgently search for missing people.

By around 9pm on July 19, authorities had rescued 12 people and found a total of 34 bodies, including 8 children. Notably, among those rescued was a baby who had been trapped in the ship’s hold for hours. Many tourists and 5 crew members are still missing.

Hospitals in Quang Ninh province sent dozens of ambulances and many medical staff to the scene to be on duty and transport the victims.
