In a Bloomberg Power On report, analyst Mark Gurman stated that memory chip shortages have caused delays in the launch dates of several Apple products, including the Mac Studio M5 and the touchscreen MacBook Pro.
"A widespread memory shortage could force Apple to delay the launch of its Mac computer lineup."
"With strong growth momentum, the company doesn't want supply chain issues to impact products right from launch. That's why at least two of the upcoming models, the Mac Studio and the touchscreen MacBook Pro, may launch later than originally planned," Gurman emphasized.
The shortage is affecting both RAM and SSD storage. Initially, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touchscreens were expected to launch in late 2026 or early 2027. However, based on the latest developments, the product is likely to be released in early 2027.
Touchscreens are part of the next generation of MacBook Pro, alongside a host of hardware and design changes. According to MacRumors , rumored features include the M6 Pro/M6 Max chip, an OLED display, the Dynamic Island notch, and a thinner design.
With its OLED display, the MacBook Pro will offer higher display quality than the current generation, with deeper blacks and improved contrast.
To differentiate it from other laptop lines, Apple might even use the name MacBook Ultra. Meanwhile, macOS 27 will feature a touch-friendly interface.
Previously, a Bloomberg writer reported that the touch interface on macOS 27 includes a new context menu, larger button sizes, and several other changes. These features are now finalized and ready for release later this year.
For years, Apple opposed putting touchscreens on Macs. At an event in October 2010, the late CEO Steve Jobs asserted that "touch surfaces are not suitable for vertical placement" and that equipping Macs with touchscreens would be "worse ergonomically."
However, Apple now promotes the iPad as both a touchscreen tablet and a device that can be used with a keyboard. In 2023, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman reported that Apple was considering developing touchscreen Mac models, and it seems that this will soon become a reality.

Regarding the Mac Studio, rumors suggest an upgrade with the M5 chip could launch in mid-year, coinciding with the WWDC 2026 conference (June). However, according to internal sources, the device will not appear until October due to component shortages.
The biggest change on the Mac Studio comes from the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Currently, Apple is selling the Mac Studio with the M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips, as the M4 line doesn't have an Ultra model. Shipping dates for these versions are quite slow, and some options are completely out of stock.
The tech industry is facing a severe memory chip shortage. According to 9to5Mac , most MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros are still in stock, while supplies for desktop models (Mac mini and Mac Studio) are very limited.
