On the afternoon of November 24, while patrolling and checking the Bung - Van Ninh expressway (section passing through Truong Ninh commune, Quang Tri province), the Route Operation Management Team of the Vietnam Expressway Operation and Maintenance Joint Stock Company discovered a girl riding a bicycle alone on the lane reserved for high-speed cars, an area absolutely prohibited for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles.
Realizing that the situation could lead to a serious accident for the girl and other moving vehicles, the task force immediately stopped the specialized vehicle, approached and assisted in moving her out of the highway.
Confused and unable to remember her relatives' phone numbers, the girl was taken to Truong Ninh Commune Police Station to clarify the information.
The police identified the girl as TTMH, born in 2007, residing in Hoan Lao commune, Quang Tri province. H. said that she had recently met someone through social media. This person often texted her, then sent her location and arranged to meet. Trusting the words of her “new friend” and because of family problems, H. took her bike and left home to look for this friend. Because she did not know the way, H. got lost on the highway.
Truong Ninh Commune Police contacted and guided the family to pick H up, ensuring safety and psychological stability.
Representatives of the Commune Police recommend that parents need to strengthen management and guidance for their children in using phones and social networks; promptly detect unusual signs to prevent the risk of children running away from home or being taken advantage of by bad guys.
The incident is a warning about the potential risks of relationships in cyberspace, especially for minors. Families, schools and authorities need to work more closely together to protect, care for and educate children, helping them identify risks and use social networks safely.
