At a renowned academy like Manchester United, the path from promising young talent to a secure place in the first team is never a straight line. The journeys of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are the clearest examples, as both started from the same point but each took completely different paths.
In 2022, winning the FA Youth Cup opened a huge door for the younger generation of the "Red Devils". Mainoo and Garnacho were then seen as symbols of the future, representing a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford. Things changed dramatically when Michael Carrick took over as interim manager. He immediately placed his trust in Mainoo, and the young midfielder did not disappoint. From an obscure name, he became a key player in midfield, appearing in almost every game under Carrick and proving his worth with his consistency and intelligence.
