On the afternoon of June 4, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue received Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is visiting Vietnam.
Vietnamese leaders welcomed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. They also highly appreciated the talks between the two Prime Ministers and the important agreements reached.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his kind remarks about Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries.
The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam and Australia are two countries in the Asia-Pacific region, have many similarities, and have gone through many periods of development over the past 50 years. The relationship between the two countries has been expanded and deepened in politics, economic cooperation, science, technology, education - training, defense and security.
In particular, people-to-people exchanges and relations are very close with over 300,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Australia, including tens of thousands of Vietnamese students studying in Australia. Based on these important foundations and the great potential for cooperation, the two countries have good prospects for development in the coming time.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong agreed on development directions, including bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height, further cooperation and improving the effectiveness of implementing agreements. The General Secretary also recalled good memories of his previous visit to Australia, the country and its people.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed Australia's respect for the role, position and relationship with Vietnam. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the development prospects and the desire to bring the relationship between the two countries to new heights.

Vietnam has a priority position in the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy
At the meeting with President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his joy at meeting the President again after their meeting in the UK in May.
The Australian Prime Minister was impressed by the changes in Vietnam after each visit. Mr. Anthony Albanese affirmed that Vietnam is always Australia's top priority partner in the region.
The Australian Prime Minister said that Vietnam will have a priority position in the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 that Australia is building.
The two leaders were pleased with the strong development of bilateral relations after 50 years and agreed to further strengthen political trust, considering this an important foundation for developing bilateral relations to new heights.
The two sides were pleased with the outstanding achievements, especially in politics - foreign affairs, security - defense, economics - trade - investment, education and training, culture, tourism, sports, labor, science and technology, people-to-people exchange, local cooperation, etc.
The President appreciated the meaningful activities of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his visit, including exchanges with the two countries' women's football teams and enjoying Vietnamese cuisine.
The President proposed that Australia create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Australia to maintain the Vietnamese language, traditions, and culture, and for Vietnamese students to access visa procedures and study abroad.
Vietnam is ready to provide highly skilled workers in industry, agriculture and services to Australia, and encourages Australian citizens to participate in the Working Holiday Maker Program in Vietnam.
Australia has confidence in Vietnam's central role
Pleased to meet again with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that Australia has confidence in Vietnam's central role in the region. He believes that economic cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop more strongly.
Acknowledging Vietnam's dynamic development when he first visited in 1996, and now, as Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Anthony Albanese hopes that the two sides will have effective exchanges, increase trade and promote contacts between legislative bodies and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides agreed that Vietnam and Australia still have a lot of room for trade development, based on new generation free trade agreements such as CPTPP, RCEF, etc. The two economies have good foundations, complement each other and do not compete directly. However, the National Assembly Chairman said that the trade turnover between Vietnam and Australia in the total turnover of each side is still modest, including investment.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that Australia is building a Southeast Asian economic cooperation strategy as a practical framework for economic and trade development in which Vietnam plays a central role.
The National Assembly Chairman proposed that Australia continue to support Vietnam both technically and financially in building institutions and laws on equitable energy transition, climate change adaptation, digital transformation, and improving English proficiency for officials.
Agreeing with the proposal of the National Assembly Chairman, the Australian Prime Minister said that having more seminars and exchanges between educational and training institutions is an opportunity to learn from each other in the process of developing and adapting to the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Australian Parliament wish to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination at multilateral forums, and promote delegation exchanges.
The Vietnamese National Assembly will host the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in September 2023, and the National Assembly Chairman invited Australia to send a delegation to attend.
