General Secretary attends the inauguration of the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Park

This afternoon, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife, attended the inauguration of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that this is an event of special significance, marking a new step forward in the relationship between the two Parties and States, highlighting the connection, special trust, affection and loyalty between comrades and brothers of Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested relevant agencies to pay attention, allocate appropriate resources, strengthen management, coordinate operation and exploitation of the project to ensure efficiency, worthy of the expectations of the people of the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that following the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Park, there will be many more large and meaningful projects in the future.

Thongsalith Mangnomek, Chief of the Central Office of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, said the project is not only a symbol of the relationship between the two countries, but also a place to organize cultural activities, rest, physical education, sports, and a playground for the young generation. This is also a place to educate the next generation about traditions.

The park has an area of ​​over 30,000 square meters and a total value of over 340 billion VND. Of which, the Lao Government's counterpart capital is 9 billion Kip (equivalent to over 10 billion VND), and the Vietnamese Government's non-refundable aid is 330 billion VND.

This is a symbolic project, a cultural and spiritual gift from Vietnam to Laos on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day and to welcome the National Congress of the two Parties.

The park is not only a community service project but also a vivid symbol of a loyal, steadfast and rare relationship in world history.

On December 2, General Secretary To Lam visited and wished good health to former General Secretary and former President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone and former General Secretary and former President of Laos Bounhang Volachit.

Former senior Lao leaders said they always followed and were proud of Vietnam's development achievements in all aspects.

Former Lao leaders said they always pay attention to the cooperation situation between Laos and Vietnam, are happy to see the relationship between the two countries continue to develop strongly, and hope that senior leaders of the two countries continue to inherit traditions to increasingly foster good relations between the two countries.

General Secretary To Lam thanked former Lao leaders for always following Vietnam's development and showing affection for generations of Vietnamese leaders.

Vietnam always appreciates the great achievements that Laos has achieved in 50 years of national construction and 40 years of renovation; and respects the important contributions of former leaders through the periods.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will continue to strongly and comprehensively support the cause of innovation, socio-economic development, protection and construction of Laos.

General Secretary To Lam shared that during the visit, the two sides agreed to elevate the Vietnam-Laos relationship to the level of “Great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, strategic cohesion”, demonstrating a common vision and intertwined strategic interests, orienting long-term companionship for the self-reliance and common prosperity of the two peoples.

Former Lao leaders emphasized that Vietnam has always been a consistent friend, standing side by side with Laos in the most difficult times as well as in the current renovation and development process.

General Secretary To Lam stressed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives top priority to preserving and developing the special Vietnam-Laos relationship; and is committed to working with Laos to effectively implement the agreements reached, especially strategic orientations in economic cooperation, national defense - security, culture, education and infrastructure connection.

The General Secretary informed about the high-level meeting between the two Parties taking place this afternoon and the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee tomorrow morning. The two countries will increase trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the near future and aim for 10 billion USD; agree on strategic cooperation; connect transport infrastructure, air, rail, sea; and connect energy.

The General Secretary hopes that former Lao leaders will continue to pay attention, contribute and share valuable experiences to strengthen relations between the two countries.
