General Secretary To Lam works at the construction site of Long Thanh International Airport.

On the morning of November 13, in Dong Nai, General Secretary To Lam and the Central working delegation worked at the construction site of Long Thanh International Airport project, assessing the implementation of the national key project and development orientation in the regional and international competitive environment.

Accompanying were comrades: Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Standing member of the Party's 14th Congress Document Subcommittee; Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Party Central Committee members: Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Prime Minister; Vu Hong Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Pham Gia Tuc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; leaders of central and local departments, ministries and branches, and business representatives.

Reporting at the working session, the leader of the Ministry of Construction said that the Long Thanh International Airport construction investment project was started on January 5, 2021, and will be implemented synchronously from March 2022. The project has a capacity of 100 million passengers/year and 5 million tons of cargo/year; the total investment is about 336,630 billion VND; the land area used is 5,000 hectares; the investment is divided into 3 phases. In which, phase 1 will invest in the construction of 2 runways in the north and 1 passenger terminal with synchronous auxiliary items, with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year and 1.2 million tons of cargo/year.

Up to now, many main items of the project have been completed such as: Connecting roads, runway 1, phase 1 boundary fence,...

With the high determination of the Government, ministries, sectors, investors and construction units, the construction progress of Long Thanh Airport - Phase 1 strives to be basically completed, ensuring standards and conditions for inauguration according to regulations before December 19, 2025, meeting technical flights, putting the project into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026.

The Government and the Prime Minister have resolutely directed relevant ministries, branches and localities to promptly complete connecting traffic routes (expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and in 2026) to create a multi-dimensional connection network, helping to reduce the load on existing routes and improve the operational efficiency of Long Thanh airport in the long term.

The Government is also directing the Ministry of Construction, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and relevant ministries and branches to study and implement phase 2 of Long Thanh International Airport, with the construction of the third runway (phase 2) expected to start on December 19, 2025. Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has completed all site clearance and resettlement work for the Long Thanh International Airport project.

Speaking at the working session, General Secretary To Lam acknowledged the overall progress of phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project with positive results; commended the Government, ministries, branches, localities, enterprises, investors, joint ventures and contractors for their efforts in implementing component projects of phase 1.

The project has initially demonstrated the financial efficiency and autonomy of Vietnamese enterprises. By mastering and operating advanced management technologies, Long Thanh airport is aiming to become a green, smart, international-class airport.

The General Secretary stressed the need to unify the recognition of the strategic significance of the Long Thanh International Airport project. This is not just an airport but a strategic driving force for the country's economic development, especially in the key economic region of the South.

When put into operation, this airport will play a very important role in the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces through enhancing connectivity and trade, developing tourism, attracting investment, creating jobs, and increasing income. Long Thanh International Airport will relieve pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and at the same time form an international transit port following the development trend of major airports in the world.

When put into operation, this airport will play a very important role in the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces through enhancing connectivity and trade, developing tourism, attracting investment, creating jobs, and increasing income. Long Thanh International Airport will relieve pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and at the same time form an international transit port following the development trend of major airports in the world.

To promote the project's effectiveness, the General Secretary requested that all levels and sectors clearly identify a number of key tasks and solutions.

First of all, to create national, regional and international competitiveness, Long Thanh airport must be built and operated with a spirit of surpassing with pioneering differences, as a new model of aviation infrastructure, a modern, sustainable and smart operating system. Ministries, branches and investors coordinate to build a set of criteria to assess the international competitiveness of the airport, with special attention to the following factors: Service quality and passenger experience; productivity and operational efficiency; connectivity and transshipment capacity in the regional aviation network.

The General Secretary requested the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance to continue evaluating the overall effectiveness of the project, not only in terms of finance but also in terms of economic, social, environmental, defense and security. At the same time, the project needs to continue to be strictly controlled in terms of quality, safety, anti-corruption and anti-waste, ensuring that Long Thanh Airport is truly a project of the century.

Ministries, branches and localities focus on major groups of solutions: Speeding up the progress of projects and traffic works to ensure multi-modal infrastructure connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, making the travel time from the airport to the center of Ho Chi Minh City as fast and convenient as possible.

Building a modern and synchronous aviation service ecosystem including: Accommodation, hotels, conference centers, trade, healthcare, training, logistics, technical training, logistics, customs, financial services, etc., towards forming Long Thanh airport city.

To increase the international appeal of Long Thanh airport, the Government needs to direct relevant ministries, branches and units to soon develop policies to attract international airlines to exploit with internationally competitive ground service, maintenance and cargo transit fee and charge mechanisms.

At the same time, deploy a strategy to promote and market the global market so that Long Thanh airport becomes a priority destination for international airlines, a new gateway from Vietnam to the world. The goal is that international passengers coming to Vietnam choose Long Thanh airport because of its convenience, utility and satisfaction; international airlines choose this place because of its efficiency, service quality and attractive investment environment.

The General Secretary affirmed his belief that under the Government's strong leadership, the active coordination of ministries, branches, localities, enterprises and the dedication of the collective of workers, Long Thanh International Airport will be completed on schedule and in absolute international safety, becoming a symbol of modern Vietnam, developing sustainably in the new period.

Previously, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Delegation visited and presented gifts to encourage construction units at the project site.
