General Secretary To Lam visited and wished good health to former General Secretary and former President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone and former General Secretary and former President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith.

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on December 2, within the framework of the State visit to Laos, attending the 50th National Day celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and co-chairing the high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in Vientiane, Laos, General Secretary To Lam visited and wished good health to former General Secretary and former President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone and former General Secretary and former President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith.

Former Lao senior leaders expressed their excitement and honor to meet again with General Secretary To Lam , a close friend of the Lao people, during his important working trip to Laos.

The visit took place in the joyful atmosphere of Laos celebrating the 50th anniversary of National Day and the 105th birthday of President Kaysone Phomvihane. It was a great encouragement for Laos and also a continuation of the good traditional relationship between the two Parties, two countries and leaders of the two countries.

The former leaders said they always followed and were proud of Vietnam's achievements in all aspects of development, with the economic growth rate leading the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Vietnam's position and role were increasingly enhanced in the international arena, demonstrating the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The comrades said they are always interested in the cooperation situation between Laos and Vietnam, and are happy to see that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop strongly, and strategic projects continue to be implemented.

On this occasion, former Lao leaders respectfully sent their best regards to former leaders and leaders of Vietnam; hoping that senior leaders of the two countries will continue to inherit the tradition to increasingly foster the good relationship between the two countries.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his emotion at meeting again the former leaders, close friends who have always been close to Vietnam, always had consistent affection and support for the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and have made many contributions to the relationship between the two countries in all circumstances.

The General Secretary thanked former Lao leaders for always following Vietnam's development and their affection for generations of Vietnamese leaders.

The General Secretary conveyed regards and best wishes of health from the leaders and former leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to the former leaders of Laos.

General Secretary To Lam stressed that Vietnam always appreciates the great achievements that Laos has achieved in 50 years of national construction and 40 years of renovation; and respects the important contributions of former leaders through the periods.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will continue to strongly and comprehensively support the cause of innovation, socio-economic development, protection and construction of Laos; and believes that under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Laos will successfully organize the 12th National Congress and continue to develop prosperously.

The General Secretary shared his impressions of the solidarity among the people, the wisdom of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and the strength of the armed forces when witnessing the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day.

General Secretary To Lam shared that during this visit, the two sides agreed to elevate the Vietnam-Laos relationship to the level of “Great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, strategic cohesion,” demonstrating a common vision and intertwined strategic interests, orienting long-term companionship for the self-reliance and common prosperity of the two peoples.

Former Lao leaders emphasized that Vietnam has always been a consistent friend, standing side by side with Laos in the most difficult times as well as in the current renovation and development process.

The two comrades expressed their firm belief that, under the leadership of the two Parties, the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos will increasingly develop strongly and deepen, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

The former Lao leaders emphasized that they will always keep the warmest memories and feelings for the country and people of Vietnam, and hope that the next generations of leaders will continue to nurture this special relationship, constantly improve the effectiveness of cooperation and implement bilateral agreements and treaties; especially emphasizing the importance of educating and propagating to the people, especially the young generation of the two countries, about the long-standing tradition of close relations between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

General Secretary To Lam respectfully thanked the former Lao leaders for their valuable assessments, sentiments and contributions; affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach importance to and give the highest priority to preserving and developing the special Vietnam-Laos relationship; committed to working with Laos to effectively implement the agreements reached, especially the strategic orientations in economic cooperation, national defense-security, culture, education and infrastructure connection and the new contents just reached after the high-level talks.

The General Secretary informed the former Lao leaders about the high-level meeting between the two Parties that will take place on the afternoon of December 2 and immediately after that, the two countries will hold a meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee on the morning of December 3 to implement the results achieved from the high-level talks, believing that the two countries have every basis to promote better relations, increase trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the near future and towards 10 billion USD in the coming time; agreed to link strategies, connect transport infrastructure, air, rail, sea; connect energy, especially renewable energy, clean energy; promote training of cadres, strengthen cooperation in science and technology.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his hope that former Lao leaders would continue to pay attention, contribute and share valuable experiences to strengthen the relationship between the two countries; wished them and their families good health and happiness and respectfully invited them to visit and relax in Vietnam./.
