An important milestone in Vietnam - Japan relations
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong emphasized that over the past 80 years, Vietnam has gone through many difficult stages to become one of the top 35 economies in the world, with a trade scale among the 20 largest countries. Vietnam has participated in 17 free trade agreements, established diplomatic relations with 194 countries and is aiming to become a developed, high-income country by 2045.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly affirmed: “On that journey, the companionship of Japan - a trusted and close friend - is indispensable. Vietnam and Japan have upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world since 2023, creating a new foundation for increasingly deeper cooperation.”
Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations were established in September 1973, and have now been 52 years. On that foundation, the two countries have become strategic partners, connecting in many areas from politics, economics, culture to education, science and technology, and are currently expanding to new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, and innovation.
15 years accompanying the Vietnamese community in Fukuoka
| Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai assessed that, with the role of a bridge, over the past 15 years, the Consulate General has contributed to bringing the image of Vietnam closer to the Japanese people, while encouraging the spirit of attachment of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland. |
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai reviewed the 15-year journey of formation and development of the diplomatic representative agency in the region.
According to 2025 data, Vietnam ranked second in the list of foreign markets that Fukuoka businesses want to expand cooperation with. Exports from Vietnam to Japan reached more than 6.3 billion USD in the first quarter of this year, an increase of more than 12%, a clear demonstration of trust and bilateral economic ties. The opening of a direct flight from Vietnam to Hiroshima in May 2024 will not only shorten the geographical distance, but also strengthen connections between people and businesses, opening up new opportunities for investment cooperation, tourism, cultural and educational exchanges between Vietnam and the Chugoku region. We are continuing to promote the opening of a direct flight to Okinawa.
“Since 2009, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka has always strived to connect the community, protect the rights of our people, and promote trade, investment, labor, culture and education cooperation between Vietnam and Kyushu provinces. Today's achievements are thanks to the valuable support and companionship of the Japanese government and local friends.”
As a bridge, the Consulate General has contributed to bringing the image of Vietnam closer to the Japanese people, while encouraging the spirit of attachment of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland.
