Yesterday (December 5), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the departure ceremony of the country's sports delegation to the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. Speaking to more than 1,000 athletes, President Prabowo emphasized that each player carries a great responsibility when representing the country at the largest sporting event in Southeast Asia.

“You have received an honor that not everyone has. You have been given the opportunity, the trust to represent more than 200 million Indonesians. They want to hear the Indonesian national anthem Raya at the SEA Games and be respected by other countries. I hope the athletes will do their best to bring glory to Indonesia,” he said.
The Indonesian delegation to the 33rd SEA Games has a total of 1,021 athletes, up from 996 at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. The increase in numbers comes from the expansion of the number of events in athletics, cycling and fencing.
Youth & Sports Minister Erick Thohir said the force adjustment plan comes with an ambitious target of 80 gold medals.
“We will provide the best for the athletes. We are optimizing the budget and sending the largest force, so that we can win as many medals as possible for the Indonesian sports delegation,” Mr. Thohir said.
Indonesia's target is to win 80 gold medals. But we cannot be satisfied with that number. We must show our best to achieve the best results."

During the ceremony, President Prabowo suddenly proposed to increase the reward for athletes who won the 33rd SEA Games gold medal. When Minister Thohir informed him that the current reward was 500 million rupiah, he immediately requested to double it.
“It can be raised to 1 billion rupiah,” the Indonesian President said, drawing a big response from the athletes.
“They (athletes) will fight for the love of the Fatherland. Let's give our best for Indonesia,” he added.
