The US President invited General Secretary To Lam to join the Gaza Strip Peace Council.

Vietnam accepted the invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the Gaza Peace Council as a founding member state.

On January 16, 2026, US President Donald Trump sent an invitation to General Secretary To Lam and Vietnam to join as a founding member state, working with the international community to promote a sustainable peaceful solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

In response to an invitation from US President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam emphasized Vietnam's consistent stance of supporting and always being ready to contribute to the common efforts of the international community towards resolving conflicts and disagreements through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, and respecting the fundamental rights of all parties involved.

The US President invited General Secretary To Lam and Vietnam to join the Gaza Strip Peace Council.

Vietnam believes that the establishment of the Peace Council is a necessary step in implementing the Gaza Strip Peace Plan, which was adopted by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2803 of November 17, 2025. In this resolution, Vietnam welcomes the participation of UN member states in the Peace Council to promote peace, humanitarian relief, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

In that spirit, General Secretary To Lam accepted the invitation to join the Peace Council and affirmed Vietnam's readiness to participate as a founding member state of the Peace Council, working together with the US and the international community to make positive contributions towards a long-term, comprehensive solution to the Middle East peace process, including the establishment of a Palestinian state coexisting peacefully alongside the state of Israel.

In the letter, General Secretary To Lam also proposed that Vietnam and the United States continue to cooperate to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, developing it in an increasingly substantive and effective manner, strengthening cooperation in many areas consistent with the needs and priorities of both sides, based on mutual respect, ensuring the legitimate interests of each nation, and making positive contributions to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
