Russian President Putin is about to pay a state visit to Vietnam

(Dan Tri) - At the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Russian President Putin will pay a state visit to Vietnam on June 19-20.
The information was announced by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of June 17. This is the fifth time Mr. Putin has visited Vietnam as President of Russia. The previous visits were in 2001, 2006, 2013 and 2017.

Vietnam and the Russian Federation officially established diplomatic relations in 1950. Since then, the two countries have regularly maintained and promoted a relationship with high trust. On March 1, 2001, Vietnam and Russia signed a Joint Statement on Strategic Partnership. In 2012, the two sides issued a Joint Statement on further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In 2019-2020, the two countries organized the Vietnam - Russia and Russia cross years to mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Basic Principles of Friendship (1994-2019) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2020), which will continue in 2021. Vietnam - Russia political relations have always had high trust and have been constantly strengthened. Exchanges of high-level delegations take place regularly, creating a strong driving force for the development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Since 2020, despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, high-level bilateral contacts have been maintained regularly through phone calls and online conferences between all key leaders of the two countries. The two sides have also maintained many coordination and dialogue mechanisms such as the annual diplomatic - defense - security strategic dialogue at the level of the Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Defense strategic dialogue at the level of the Deputy Minister of Defense... In addition, the two sides have conducted regular political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers and departments within the framework of cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs. Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed dynamically in recent times, but is assessed as not commensurate with the potential of the two countries. In 2022, bilateral trade turnover reached only 3.5 billion USD, down sharply by 37% compared to 2021. By 2023, the situation showed signs of recovery when the turnover reached 3.63 billion USD. Vietnam's main exports to Russia include: Telephones, electronic equipment, textiles, footwear, agricultural, aquatic and seafood products of all kinds. Main imports include: coal, wheat, iron and steel, fertilizers, automobiles, machinery and equipment of all kinds... In the investment field, as of April 2024, Russia ranked 28th among countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 186 projects and a total registered capital of about 984.98 million USD. Russia's investment focuses mainly on mining, oil and gas, processing and manufacturing industries... Vietnam currently has 18 investment projects in Russia with a total registered capital of 1.63 billion USD. Russia ranks 4th out of 80 countries and territories in which Vietnam has invested, mainly in the Rusvietpetro Oil and Gas Joint Venture projects, the Hanoi - Moscow Cultural - Trade Center... In recent times, security and defense cooperation has continued to be promoted. Meanwhile, energy is a traditional strategic and effective cooperation field. The Vietnamese community in Russia currently has about 60,000-80,000 people, has existed and lived in Russia for three decades; has made significant contributions to the country, always taking the lead in charitable activities. In the Russian Federation, Vietnamese organizations have been established such as the Association of Vietnamese in the Russian Federation, the Association of Enterprises, the Association of Veterans, the Association of Students in Moscow, the Association of Literature and Arts, the Association of Science and Technology, the Association of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Association of Martial Arts, and other associations of compatriots... In education and training, the Soviet Union previously helped Vietnam train nearly 40,000 excellent cadres and experts in many different fields. Currently, Russia continues to support Vietnam in training human resources and increase the number of scholarships for Vietnam to 1,000/year since 2019. Currently, there are more than 5,000 Vietnamese students studying in Russia.
