RT quoted an announcement from the Kremlin on July 18 saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the Ukraine conflict as well as the recent escalation in Syria.

According to the statement, the Russian and Turkish leaders mentioned the possibility of holding the third round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul.
During the phone call, Mr Putin "reaffirmed his principled position in favour of finding a political and diplomatic solution" to the conflict in Ukraine, and thanked President Erdogan for his readiness to facilitate direct negotiations.
The Turkish president stressed that the country is ready to continue holding talks (between Russia and Ukraine) in Istanbul "once a suitable time is determined for the parties".
The two presidents also discussed the violent clashes between Syrian government forces and the Druze minority in the Syrian city of Sweida over the past several days. The Israeli military has carried out airstrikes in southern Syria and Damascus, allegedly to “protect” the Druze community, leading to an escalation of regional tensions.
Putin and Erdogan both expressed concern about the escalation of tensions and "stressed the importance of stabilizing the situation through dialogue as soon as possible," according to the Kremlin. Erdogan said that by carrying out the airstrikes, Israel was "violating Syria's sovereignty ."
