“I believe this law is correct,” Zelensky wrote on the Telegram social network, according to Reuters. He said he had signed the law, which also bans the commercial import of books printed in Belarus or occupied Ukrainian territory.
The bill, passed by the Ukrainian parliament a year ago, also requires a special permit to import Russian-language books from third countries.
President Zelensky's office said on Twitter that the law will strengthen the protection of Ukraine's information and cultural space from anti-Ukrainian propaganda carried out by Russia.
Ukraine has been undertaking a process of "de-Russianization," arguing that it needs to undo centuries-old policies that it sees as destructive of Ukrainian identity.
Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko thanked the President for signing the bill. “The adoption of this draft law will protect the Ukrainian book publishing and distribution sector from the influence of the ‘Russian world ’,” he said.
Russia has not commented on this Ukrainian law.
