Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu has confirmed it is suspending deliveries of its cars following the safety scandal. In fact, 64 models are affected, including 20 sold under the Toyota brand.
The incident not only raises safety concerns for Toyota and Daihatsu, but also has a major impact on the global auto market. The investigation found that Daihatsu’s airbag control unit (ACU) did not match the parts fitted to commercial vehicles.
Toyota Veloz models sold in Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Mexico are among the affected models.
This problem has not only affected the Japanese market but also spread to the international market. In addition to Toyota and Daihatsu models, Mazda and Subaru are also facing similar challenges.
Daihatsu chairman Soichiro Okudaira admitted the situation was "extremely serious" and stressed that any legal permits were likely to be revoked.

Vietnam is one of the affected markets, according to the latest announcement from Daihatsu. Models produced for Southeast Asian markets including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam are all facing production and distribution suspensions.
Daihatsu produced 1.1 million vehicles in the first 10 months of the year, nearly 40 percent of which were produced outside Japan, according to Toyota data. Daihatsu sold about 660,000 vehicles globally during the period.
