On July 18, at the dialogue conference between tourism businesses and the city government organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), many tourism and hotel businesses presented difficulties that they hope will be resolved.
Ho Chi Minh City river tourism "runs aground"
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Lieu Thi My Hanh, CEO of Les Rives Joint Stock Company, said there are 17 canoes, doing river tourism.
According to Ms. Hanh, this is a potential tourism branch, but Ho Chi Minh City does not have a public wharf and does not serve inland waterways.
"Why not, I don't know. Ho Chi Minh City is an economic locomotive, with great power and influence but has not yet emerged. Enterprises invest with boats but no docks, where can the boats go? Meanwhile, in the city center, there are still docks that have been empty for a long time without being exploited," Ms. Hanh confided.
Businesses propose that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism act as a bridge to propose the city invest in public wharves for river tourism.
Meanwhile, some hotels said they are facing difficulties such as fake fanpages, affecting their reputation, and challenges in attracting international guests to key markets when the city has a new administrative unit.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, marketing director of Vias Vung Tau Hotel (Tam Thang Ward), the hotel mainly welcomes inbound market guests. However, with the goal of welcoming more guests to Vung Tau and Ho Tram in 2025 - 2026, the hotel hopes that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will have a policy to help businesses exploit more Korean and Chinese guests.

Ho Chi Minh City has no hotels specializing in serving Muslim guests.
According to Mr. Nguyen Son Linh, representative of Nha Linh Tourism Service Company, specializing in Muslim tourists from Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, the spontaneous Muslim tourist markets have many, reducing tour quality.
Meanwhile, big companies are not interested in Muslim tours. Middle Eastern tourists spend a lot, but Ho Chi Minh City lacks specialized 5-star hotels, prayer bells, and Halal menus.
Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism needs to support and have a program to help hotels and businesses improve the quality of Muslim tours.
Regarding the issue of Muslim guests and MICE tourists, Ms. Vo Ngoc Diep - Head of the Department of Tourism Accommodation Management, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism - acknowledged that there are a lot of Indian MICE tourists coming to Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will welcome a group of 1,000 guests, in 2023 there will be a group of 500 guests; hotels will organize check-in, arrange bedrooms, and separate breakfast areas. The number of MICE and Muslim guests will increase with a stay of about 5 days and 4 nights.
"MICE guests often come to Ho Chi Minh City on the first day of the week, businesses should take note to guide foreign partners to adjust the program more appropriately," Ms. Diep noted.
Ho Chi Minh City will reposition its tourism development strategy to 2030.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao - Head of Tourism Resource Development Planning Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism - informed that at the end of July, the department will announce a list of new tourism resources, including 500 destinations in phase 1.
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will reposition the tourism development strategy until 2030, including brand positioning, core tourism values, and a system of distinctive products...
Including 6 product groups: festival events; waterway tourism, products related to Ho Chi Minh City's cultural values; night tourism products, products related to agricultural tourism, eco-tourism, community tourism.
