Ho Chi Minh City is actively preparing vaccine sources to implement the Measles Vaccination Campaign regardless of vaccination history after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced a measles outbreak in the area.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced a measles epidemic in the area, the health sector actively prepared vaccine sources to implement the additional measles vaccination campaign.
This campaign aims to increase the rate of measles immunity in the community, repel the epidemic, reduce the number of cases, and prevent deaths from measles. It especially contributes to protecting children in high-risk groups who will have serious complications when infected with measles such as: Children with congenital diseases, chronic diseases (cardiovascular, renal, hematological, immunocompromised children, etc.).
The campaign will be deployed at all health stations in wards, communes and towns in 22 districts and Thu Duc City. |
According to the plan, the priority subjects for vaccination in this phase are children aged 1-5 years old living in Ho Chi Minh City regardless of vaccination history; children in the high-risk group aged 6-16 years old who are being examined and treated at hospitals regardless of vaccination history.
In addition, children aged 6-10 who have not received enough doses of the vaccine, health workers at risk of contact with people with measles, and health workers caring for children in high-risk groups who have not received or have not received enough measles-containing vaccines will also be vaccinated in this campaign.
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health informed that the program will not vaccinate children with measles-rubella vaccine (MR vaccine) who have been vaccinated with measles-containing vaccine within one month before the campaign (evidence must be shown on the vaccination card/book/vaccination management software).
The campaign will be implemented at all health stations in wards, communes and towns in 22 districts, Thu Duc City. The vaccine used in this campaign is MR vaccine, purchased from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
“Immediately after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced the epidemic, the Department of Health issued Plan No. 8563/KH-SYT dated August 27, 2024 on the procurement of measles-rubella vaccines and assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) to urgently complete procedures to purchase 300,000 doses of MR vaccine. This is the vaccine being used by the National Expanded Immunization Program, produced by the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC),” said the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health.
Currently, vaccines are being transported by specialized vehicles from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. It is expected that by the end of August 30, the vaccines will arrive at the HCDC warehouse and be immediately distributed to districts.
The health sector is expected to launch a measles vaccination campaign from August 31 and organize vaccinations during the National Day holiday on September 2 in 2024.
