Ho Chi Minh City aims to be in the top 100 livable cities globally by 2030

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has passed a series of important resolutions, creating a foundation for the City to accelerate key projects and aim to be among the top 100 livable cities by 2030.

On November 14, at the 5th session (special session), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council reviewed and approved 43 important resolutions, covering many key areas serving socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security and social security.

This is considered a large amount of work, of key significance to concretize the Resolution of the first Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress and ensure the effective operation of the two-level urban government model.

In particular, resolutions aimed at removing infrastructure bottlenecks and creating momentum for socio-economic development for the City and the Southern key economic region. In particular, the City People's Council approved the policy of implementing two important railway lines connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports; the plan to build more bridges connecting traffic between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province.

In addition, the City People's Council also passed many resolutions related to the field of urban development such as: Approving the implementation plan of the Rach Chiec Sports Complex project (expected to start construction on December 19); agreeing to put the Binh Quoi-Thanh Da and Cu Lao Ben Dinh land plots up for bidding to select investors, in order to effectively exploit the large land fund and approving the expenditure of more than 17,000 billion VND to dredge two large canals in the South, Ong Be canal and Ba Lon canal.

Many resolutions on socio-cultural policies after administrative unit reorganization were also passed. This is a particularly important group of resolutions, aiming to unify the application of mechanisms and policies of Ho Chi Minh City throughout the new administrative boundaries.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc informed about the implementation of key projects demonstrating the determination to bring the City into the top 100 livable cities globally by 2030, including the anti-flooding project and the traffic system connecting to Long Thanh airport.

The Standing Committee of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee have worked and agreed on many inter-regional traffic connection items.

In the immediate future, the two localities will focus on prioritizing projects connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports; and will move forward to proposing and requesting approval for the construction of two railway lines: Suoi Tien-Long Thanh airport and Thu Thiem-Long Thanh airport.

Regarding the Rach Chiec Sports Complex project, the City is accepting investment in the form of a Build-Transfer (BT) contract.

The city is reclaiming more than 5 hectares of land to serve the groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for December 19. After 5 years of implementation, Rach Chiec Sports Complex will be qualified for the city to organize international or regional sporting events.

In order for the resolutions to be passed to soon come into life, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Vo Van Minh requested the City People's Committee, departments, branches and authorities of wards, communes and special zones to focus, proactively and resolutely implement a number of key tasks in the remaining time of the year.

In particular, localities and units focus on removing bottlenecks, especially in planning, traffic infrastructure, public investment, administrative procedure reform, striving to complete socio-economic targets of the City People's Council Resolution...

He also requested agencies and units to proactively prepare for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, ensuring the election takes place democratically, in accordance with the law, safely, transparently and achieves high results./.
