On December 1, a representative of Hung Vuong Hospital (HCMC) said that recently, this unit received a 12-year-old girl (6th grade student) with a foreign object in her private area.
The patient’s medical history showed that the girl had previously inserted a bar of soap into her vagina while bathing. At the Emergency Department, doctors treated the patient’s symptoms and removed the foreign object.
According to doctors, the problem of inserting foreign objects into the genital area is a sensitive and worrying issue and tends to increase among girls aged 10-16, when they are curious about their bodies or lack knowledge about reproductive health.
Doctors analyze that when entering puberty, children have many physical and psychological changes, but often lack knowledge and are afraid to ask their parents. From there, they easily experiment with dangerous actions.
Some children may be exposed to inappropriate videos or information on social media, leading to unsafe actions. Next, psychological disorders or stress can also cause children to act out, or seek to self-treat uncomfortable feelings in the genital area.
Additionally, children may not have a good understanding of personal hygiene and may easily take matters into their own hands without proper understanding. This is not the child’s fault, but rather a sign that the child lacks guidance and safety supervision from adults.

Doctors warn that when inserting foreign objects into the genital area, children can injure the vaginal mucosa; risk of infection leading to uterine inflammation and serious gynecological problems; foreign objects getting stuck, requiring medical intervention to remove them; bleeding and psychological anxiety.
Injuries that are not treated promptly can affect the child's long-term reproductive health.
Therefore, parents need to create a safe space for conversation, clearly explain the risks of inserting foreign objects into the vagina and instruct children on how to properly care for their bodies.
Parents also need to pay attention to detect unusual signs in children, especially when children show signs of anxiety or behavioral changes, so that they can promptly take their children to a medical facility for treatment. It is important not to scold or criticize, as this can make children feel ashamed and hide the problem.
In addition, schools and communities also play an important role in providing appropriate sex education , providing psychological support for children, creating a healthy environment and enhancing school health communication.
"Accidents of inserting foreign objects into the vagina can be completely prevented if families, schools and communities cooperate," the doctor emphasized.
