Can Gio - Vung Tau sea crossing

The Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing road project has a total length of over 14 km, with a preliminary total investment of over 104,400 billion VND, expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2029.

The project's investment plan, using the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) and BT (Build-Transfer) contract methods, was approved by the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

The route starts from Bien Dong 2 road in the Can Gio reclaimed land urban area, connects to Vung Tau at the planned Mai Sao - Ben Dinh route, and intersects with 30/4 road.

The entire route, over 14 km long (with 6 lanes and a design speed of 80 km/h), is planned to include main components such as access roads, overpasses combined with submerged tunnels under the sea. The transition section between the bridge and the tunnel will pass through two artificial islands built in the sea.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City and the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area do not have a direct road connection. People and businesses mainly have to travel via National Highway 51 or take the Can Gio - Vung Tau ferry, which takes 90 to 120 minutes. When completed, the sea-crossing road will shorten travel time from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau to just over 60 minutes, instead of the current 90-120 minutes, while creating a direct coastal connection axis, promoting tourism development in Can Gio, Long Son Industrial Park, and enhancing the operational capacity of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster.

Metro Ben Thanh - Can Gio

The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line is identified as the backbone of public transportation connecting the city center with the coastal area. The line is over 54 km long, with a preliminary total investment of approximately VND 102,430 billion (excluding land acquisition costs). The project is being implemented under the BOO (Build-Own-Operate) model, with groundbreaking ceremony on December 19, 2025, and construction expected to begin in March 2026 and be completed in 2028.

The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line is built with double tracks of standard gauge 1,435 mm and operates using a modern electrified system.

The project utilizes the Velaro Novo – the newest and most modern high-speed train from Siemens Mobility (Germany), with a maximum design speed of 350 km/h.

The route starts in the Ben Thanh area (Ben Thanh ward) and ends in a plot of land approximately 39 hectares in size, bordering the Can Gio reclaimed land tourism urban area (Can Gio commune).

The metro line is expected to operate 6 regularly scheduled trains and 1 reserve train. Daily operating hours are from 6 am to 11 pm, with a frequency of 20 minutes per trip; there are 3 pairs of trains running in both directions every hour.

The entire route takes only about 20.3 minutes, significantly shortening travel time between the center of Ho Chi Minh City and the coastal area of Can Gio.

Can Gio Bridge

The Can Gio Bridge project , spanning over 6.3 km (including a nearly 3 km main bridge), has a total investment of over 13,200 billion VND. Groundbreaking took place on January 15th, and the project is expected to be completed in 2029. The bridge is designed with six lanes, including a cable-stayed bridge with two towers and a navigable clearance of 55 meters. Upon completion, the Can Gio Bridge will completely replace the Binh Khanh ferry, breaking the decades-long isolation of the ferry service.

Upon completion, these three projects will not only address infrastructure issues but also open up new opportunities for development in the marine economy , ecotourism, and logistics, gradually realizing the goal of developing Ho Chi Minh City into a multi-centered model, strongly oriented towards the sea in the coming period.
