The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the investment plan for the project to build a traffic interchange connecting the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway with the Rung Sac road (formerly Binh Khanh commune, Can Gio district).
According to the approval decision, the project will construct a multi-level interchange connecting the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and the Rung Sac Road. The connecting branches from Rung Sac Road to the expressway are designed for a speed of 40 km/h; a roundabout with a radius of 50 m will be placed at ground level.
For the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, the project involves constructing an additional section on the right side of the route to complete the planned 8-lane capacity, ensuring a design speed of 100 km/h.
Specifically, the Rung Sac road will have two underpasses for two-way traffic, prioritizing traffic flow from Rung Sac road to Can Gio bridge and vice versa. Each underpass will be approximately 610 m long, including a 150 m enclosed section, with a road width of 10 m inside the tunnel.

The total investment for the interchange project is nearly 3,000 billion VND, funded by the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
According to the plan, the project is expected to start construction in the second quarter of 2026 and be completed in the first quarter of 2028.
The Rừng Sác Road is currently the only road connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Cần Giờ and some neighboring areas of Đồng Nai province.
The limited transportation infrastructure means that residents of Binh Khanh, Ly Nhon, Tam Thon Hiep, An Thoi Dong, and Long Hoa communes mainly rely on the Binh Khanh ferry for travel, which is frequently congested on weekends and holidays.
Meanwhile, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, which started construction in 2014, is nearly 58 km long, passing through Long An , Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, with a total investment of approximately 29,587 billion VND.
This expressway plays a crucial role in connecting the East and Southwest regions of Vietnam. Nearly 30 km have been put into temporary operation, and the entire route is expected to be open to traffic in September 2026. However, the section through Can Gio is an elevated expressway, and there are currently no direct connecting points.

The investment in constructing the Rung Sac road interchange with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is expected to create a new radial transportation axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio, facilitating travel and goods transportation, while promoting the development of urban areas, industrial zones, and ecotourism along the Rung Sac route.
Notably, once this interchange is completed, combined with the Can Gio Bridge and the upcoming Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing road, a completely new traffic route will be formed, enhancing regional connectivity and boosting tourism and logistics.
