The Ritz Carlton Hong Kong is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest hotel. The hotel occupies floors 102 to 118 of the International Commerce Centre on Victoria Harbour, offering panoramic views from a height of 484 metres - 184 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.
The hotel's elevator is one of the fastest in Hong Kong, traveling at 9.1 m/s. It takes one minute and 10 seconds to reach the reception desk on the 103rd floor.
According to Harriet Sime, a British tourist, for most of her stay in the hotel room, all she could see were clouds. They were "scary close", giving her the feeling of "being on a plane flying through a storm".
Still, staying in the world’s highest hotel room is “a treat,” according to Sime, who says guests pay $480 a night for a room on the top floor overlooking the Kowloon skyline.
Sime's room is luxuriously designed, with a large living room with a desk and a long sofa next to the window. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlook the ocean and Hong Kong Island. From here, Sime sees the skyscrapers in the distance as small as toys.
After a shower to wash away the fatigue of the 13-hour flight from London, Sime headed to the world's highest swimming pool, another Guinness-certified hotel title, the gym on the 118th floor and Asia's highest Ozone bar.
Sime spent most of the day exploring the bustling markets and back streets of Hong Kong Island, which were packed with locals and tourists alike . They lined up outside small teahouses and noodle shops, alongside men pushing carts laden with steaming dim sum.
Sime had dinner on the 102nd floor of the hotel. It was dark and rainy, and water splashed against the glass windows, leaving her with only a distant view of the city's tallest towers. "I'm sorry about the view today," the waiter told Sime as he led her to her seat.
At breakfast the next morning, when asked by the waitress "How are you feeling this morning?", Sime replied "on top of the world", literally.
