Tourists experience agricultural culture at May Suon Dong Homestay (La Bang commune).
Experience being a farmer.
One early morning at the beginning of the new year, we visited the villages nestled on the eastern slopes of the Tam Dao mountain range in the communes of Quan Chu, Van Phu, and La Bang.
In that peaceful setting, May Suon Dong Homestay stands out as a highlight that captivates tourists. On her family's tea plantation, Ms. Bui Thi Mai leveled some of the tea-growing area to build a stilt house and create a homestay, paving the way for experiential tourism .
The accommodation at May Suon Dong is constructed from bamboo, palm leaves, and stream stones; interspersed among the houses are flowers, grass, and green trees, all preserving the rustic charm of the tea hills, not disrupting the landscape but enhancing the poetic beauty of the mountains and forests.
But what makes May Suon Dong so attractive is not just its scenery. Here, visitors can live like real farmers: picking tea leaves on the hills, learning to process tea manually, packaging their own products at the workshop, and taking home the fruits of their labor. In the evening, with the wood-fired stoves burning brightly, visitors cook together using ingredients from the garden, enjoying unique dishes such as fish stewed in black tea, matcha fried tofu, fried tea leaves… These seemingly simple experiences become unforgettable memories.

At Homestay Ba Be HaDa (Ba Be commune), visitors can cook traditional dishes alongside the chef.
Not only in May Suon Dong, but throughout the province, more and more people are investing in opening homestays and farmstays for tourists to experience. Tourists are flocking to rural areas to wade through rice paddies, pick tea, harvest vegetables, learn to make traditional cakes, or cook with locally grown produce, such as Hai Dang Homestay (Dai Phuc commune); Tien Yen Farmstay (Tan Cuong commune); Cua Tu Homestay (La Bang commune); Ba Be HaDa Homestay (Ba Be commune); the scenic complex of Phuong Hoang Cave and Mo Ga Stream (Vo Nhai commune)...
What attracts tourists is not luxury amenities, but authenticity, intimacy, and spiritual value. Therefore, agricultural tourism is not just about "visiting the fields," but a process of transforming agricultural values into experiential values, connecting production, culture, education , and tourism. This is the core foundation of green tourism.
Unleash your potential

The simple beauty of a community-based tourism village in Pac Ngoi (Ba Be commune).
According to statistics, Thai Nguyen currently has about 800,000 hectares of cultivated land, of which tea continues to be the main product with over 23,000 hectares; fruit trees account for nearly 20,000 hectares... This is a solid foundation for the development of agriculture linked with tourism.
Mr. Chu Ba Trung, Director of the Provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Environment, stated that Thai Nguyen has a vast tourism space, connecting heritage sites and scenic spots. Along with that, the trend of circular agriculture linked to experiential tourism is receiving great attention, as evidenced by forums and models supported by the central and local governments. However, despite many advantages, agricultural and cultural experiential tourism in Thai Nguyen remains fragmented and spontaneous. Local people lack tourism skills, products are not standardized, and the linkages between agriculture, tourism, and culture are not strong enough...
To turn potential into reality, a comprehensive development strategy is needed. This includes training people in necessary skills, investing in appropriate infrastructure, developing unique products, and strongly applying digital technology in promotion.
Stories about the tea hills, villages, and people of Thai Nguyen, if told correctly, will have a great impact... Agricultural cultural tourism is not a short-term endeavor, but a long-term journey requiring perseverance and consensus, but it is also the most suitable path for the current development trend.
