(NADS) - The 2023 Northern Mountainous Art Photography Camp in Dien Bien Province, organized by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in collaboration with the Dien Bien Provincial Literature and Arts Association, took place from December 20 to 25, with 27 members from 15 Northern Mountainous provinces and the Association's Office.
After 1 week of organizing art photography creation in Dien Bien province. The art photography creation camp in the Northern mountainous region in Dien Bien province 2023 organized by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in coordination with the Dien Bien Provincial Literature and Arts Association has ended successfully. Although the time was not long, the camp achieved many good results, many new works were born. What was more successful was that the campers had the opportunity to exchange, learn, and improve their knowledge of art photography.
This is not a good time for photography, but the artists have tried their best to take advantage of every moment to approach the subjects. With the terrain of the mountainous province, the long distances, winding, steep and dangerous roads, the artists (including the elderly artists) still tried their best to stick with the group. The photographers took advantage of every moment to approach many famous places, scenic spots, activities of the local people, and the unique cultural features of the ethnic people.
To access many locations of the vast Dien Bien province, with many diverse images, and without duplication, the Organizing Committee divided into 3 groups: Group 1 went to Dien Bien district with the communes of Nua Ngam, Pa Khoang, Muong Phang, to take pictures of the cultural life of the Lao, Kho Mu, and Thai ethnic groups; Group 2 went to Tua Chua district with the communes of Sinh Phinh, Ta Phin to take pictures of the life of the Mong ethnic group; Group 3 went to Nam Po district with the communes of Phin Ho, Cha Cang to take pictures of the cultural life of the Xa Phang and Thai ethnic groups. After that, the Organizing Committee set aside 1 day for the campers to freely compose.
However, due to limited time, the artists have not yet fully exploited all aspects of the ethnic minority life, landscapes, mountains and rivers of Dien Bien, and the historical revolutionary relics of Dien Bien have not been exploited. The artists have not yet satisfied their passion for creativity in this land because of limited time. Many artists are hoping to continue to arrange their time to choose the best time to return to Dien Bien to carry out the works they are contemplating.
After 4 days of practical work, the Organizing Committee has received more than 100 photo files from the campers. Through the works sent by the authors, the Organizing Committee spent a day for the campers to evaluate, analyze, and learn from each other. After that, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists Ho Sy Minh, Head of the Organizing Committee of the camp, and reporter, analyzed and dissected each work to learn from each other. Through that, the campers understood more deeply, saw their strengths and weaknesses, and contributed to improving the quality of their work. The campers always promoted the responsibility of the photographers attending the camp. The shortcomings were also pointed out specifically, and the advantages were promoted.
In addition, with the enthusiastic support of the Dien Bien Provincial Literature and Arts Association and members of the Dien Bien Provincial Literature and Arts Association, the campers had the opportunity to reach out to more and more grassroots organizations. In a short time, the organizers also arranged a tight schedule, and the artists did not have time to rest, which also created pressure for the campers. In return, the campers were exposed to many topics and had the opportunity to create.
Passion, enthusiasm, and love for the profession have enabled the artists to overcome all difficulties and hardships. However, the works of the photographers sent to the camp's Organizing Committee are still limited in terms of high quality works. The works made in this camp still have many limitations in the use of photographic language, angle, composition, light, lines, especially in discovering the subject, applying artistic techniques to convey the content that needs to be expressed into the work. Besides, the post-processing stage is also weak, the color perception is not suitable for reality...
However, the great success of the camp is to see the strengths and weaknesses of the campers, point them out, discuss and exchange expertise so that the authors can learn from experience, improve their skills, and continue to create more good works. This is also a good opportunity for young photographers in Dien Bien to learn and exchange experiences, improve their creative ability, create more cores for the province and create a source of members for the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in the near future. In particular, it contributes to creating more quality works about the heroic historical land of Dien Bien, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu, making the festival in the northern mountainous region increasingly better in quality.
