Major Nguyen Khac Thinh was mobilized by the unit to participate in rescuing isolated people in neighborhood 6, Quy Nhon Dong ward. The floodwaters rose high and flowed rapidly, making it extremely difficult to reach households. Many areas were deeply flooded, and the entrances to people's houses were full of obstacles, making it difficult for the canoe to approach. Major Thinh and his teammates tied ropes to their bodies, jumped into the water to pull the canoe close to the houses, and rescued people. During the rescue process, Major Thinh unfortunately stepped on a sharp object, deeply wounding his left foot. Suppressing the pain, he used his shirt to temporarily tie up the wound and continued to rescue people.
Major Nguyen Khac Thinh and his teammates organized 8 canoe trips to reach flooded and isolated areas; brought 55 people (mainly the elderly and children) trapped out of the flooded areas and searched for missing people. Transported and supplied food, drinking water, medicine, and other necessities to 75 households in isolated areas.
On November 24, the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard awarded a Certificate of Merit to Major Nguyen Khac Thinh for his outstanding achievements in participating in the task of overcoming the consequences of the November 2025 flood, contributing to protecting people's lives and property.
The brave and selfless actions of Major Nguyen Khac Thinh not only saved dozens of lives, his story is also the most vivid proof of the spirit of "Forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people".
