Luong Son commune is supporting the construction of solidarity houses for disadvantaged families.
Together with members of the Hoa Binh Volunteer Club, we visited children with Thalassemia who are receiving treatment at Hoa Binh General Hospital. Speaking with us, Ms. Do Thi Dung, Head of the Hoa Binh Charity Club, said: "Children with Thalassemia will need blood transfusions and iron chelation therapy for life. Most of them are from ethnic minority groups, living in particularly difficult areas, and their circumstances are very pitiable. The 'Hope for Children' program, dedicated to children with congenital thalassemia, involves the Hoa Binh Charity Club organizing one to two monthly events to donate cash and gifts from benefactors to these children. This is one of the charity programs that the Club regularly maintains. After more than 10 years of establishment, the Hoa Binh Charity Club has gathered many compassionate and humanitarian hearts, raising tens of billions of dong to support those in difficult circumstances and suffering from serious illnesses... This is a practical way for us to learn from and follow President Ho Chi Minh's spirit of mutual support and compassion."
Besides donating gifts to needy patients, along with the Hoa Binh Charity Club, other charity clubs in the province have been implementing many charitable activities to support disadvantaged patients. Currently, there are 15 clubs and volunteer teams regularly operating the "Charity Kitchen" model at medical facilities. Each day, these volunteer clubs provide an average of 3,000-5,000 free meals to poor patients and those with serious illnesses, including rice, porridge, milk, and other nutritional necessities.
It is evident that the spirit of "mutual support and compassion" emulated by President Ho Chi Minh has spread widely throughout the province, receiving enthusiastic support from cadres, Party members, and the people. A prime example is the "Compassionate Tet" movement, implemented synchronously from the provincial level to the grassroots, with the direct attention and guidance of Party committees and authorities, and the active participation of organizations, businesses, agencies, and philanthropists. Over the past five years, the entire province has mobilized and distributed more than 579,000 Tet gifts to poor and near-poor households, people with disabilities, policy beneficiary families, victims of Agent Orange, and vulnerable groups, with a total value exceeding 311 billion VND. Highlights of the movement include "Spring Festival Fairs," "Compassionate Tet Markets," and "Zero-Cost Stalls," organized in many localities, creating a warm and cohesive community atmosphere; while also combining gift giving, free medical examinations, and traditional games. This is an innovative and creative approach that contributes to spreading a profound spirit of humanity. "Tet of Compassion" has become a nationwide movement, raising awareness of sharing, empathy, and social responsibility, affirming the cultural values and traditions of national solidarity.
Furthermore, the "Each organization, each individual is linked to a humanitarian cause" campaign has become a major, ongoing activity with practical significance and strong widespread impact. In particular, it has promoted the role and responsibility of the heads of agencies and units in directly participating, directing, and mobilizing resources for support. As a result, many humanitarian causes in difficult circumstances have been connected and assisted with support ranging from 20 to 60 million VND per case. The various levels of the association have reviewed and compiled records of addresses at the grassroots level and updated data on the Charity App, with 4,861 addresses listed, creating a solid foundation for timely and targeted support. Over the past five years, the campaign has assisted 8,124 people with a total value of 19.186 billion VND, not only improving the quality of life for those in difficult circumstances but also strengthening social responsibility, the spirit of mutual support, and the humanitarian network throughout the province.
The "Humanitarian House" model and the implemented humanitarian projects have also contributed to spreading the spirit of mutual support and compassion, following President Ho Chi Minh's example. During the period 2020-2025, businesses, philanthropists, and local people in the province mobilized and supported the construction of 813 new houses for disadvantaged families, each valued at 50-100 million VND, with a total value of nearly 75 billion VND.
Furthermore, the spirit of mutual support and compassion is widely promoted through regular and emergency relief activities. The methods of assistance implemented by organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and local authorities are diverse, including: direct support in kind and cash for victims of Agent Orange, households affected by accidents, fires, and serious illnesses; regular visits and gift-giving to impoverished members; awarding scholarships, bicycles, and school supplies to underprivileged students; building and repairing infrastructure such as roads and clean water facilities; and emergency response during natural disasters and epidemics. From 2020 to 2025, the entire province has provided regular assistance to over 118,650 humanitarian cases and emergency support to nearly 685,740 people, totaling 240 billion VND.
In particular, the implementation of the Humanitarian Month in May each year has attracted the participation of organizations and individuals who donate gifts to poor and near-poor households and people in difficult circumstances; provide breeding cattle and production tools; build and repair humanitarian houses; organize free medical examinations and provide free medicine; award scholarships and bicycles to poor students; organize "Humanitarian Markets" and communication and propaganda programs to raise community awareness...
Learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example of mutual support and compassion has spread profound love throughout the community, giving those in difficult circumstances more motivation to rise above their challenges in life, creating a beautiful cultural tradition of our nation.
