Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Pham Quang Thao, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, emphasized that 2025 marks a particularly important period in resource management, environment and sustainable development.
In the context of the world facing climate crisis, resource degradation and environmental pollution, Vietnam continues to demonstrate strong determination in implementing the 2030 Agenda, the National Strategy on Green Growth and especially the commitment to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. On that journey, Vietnamese intellectuals play a key role through research, technology transfer, policy advice and community inspiration.
At the workshop, Dr. Tran Dai Lam, Director of the Institute of Materials Science (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) presented the development trends of clean technology, renewable energy and circular economy in the world and in Vietnam. Currently, many countries are strongly promoting the application of clean technology in all fields towards a low-carbon economy.
Vietnam is also seizing this trend to become a potential destination in the global clean technology supply chain. In terms of energy, the trend of shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources continues to take place strongly. Vietnam's natural conditions allow for prioritizing the development of offshore wind power, solar power, biomass and green hydrogen, energy sources that are forecast to play an important role in the future.

Dr. Tran Dai Lam also emphasized the importance of building smart grids, enhancing energy storage and developing industrial supply chains for renewable energy. At the same time, the circular economic model needs to be promoted according to the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
He said that clean technology, renewable energy and circular economy will be important pillars of green growth, helping Vietnam achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring sustainable development. As a leading research institution, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is committed to continuing to take the lead in researching and implementing technological solutions to serve the goal of greening the economy.
According to Dr. Nguyen The Chinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Environmental Economics Association, Vietnam's Green Growth Strategy has been issued and continuously updated over the past decade, posing an urgent need to innovate thinking, promote science and technology and mobilize the substantial participation of intellectuals.
The strategy implementation process needs to be based on a solid scientific foundation, especially in three areas: Policy planning and review; designing new management tools such as carbon pricing, circular economy, green production models; independent monitoring of implementation to reduce policy risks and ensure carbon neutrality goals.
Based on the above reality, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Chinh proposed to build a national “Intellectuals for a Green Future” Network to gather a strong force of experts, deeply participate in consulting, criticizing and independently monitoring the implementation of the green growth strategy. According to him, promoting the effective role of intellectuals is the key to ensuring that green transformation goals are implemented in the right direction, on schedule and in accordance with the requirements of sustainable development in the new period.
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing issues related to sustainable development, from the need to reduce emissions in agriculture, build ecological agriculture and green countryside to perfecting mechanisms and policies and raising public awareness.
Opinions at the workshop showed a high consensus on the role of science, technology, institutions and culture in the process of implementing the green growth strategy, towards the goal of building a more sustainable, modern and green Vietnam in the coming years.
