Implementing the Project "Strengthening provincial leadership in law enforcement on tobacco harm prevention and control for a smoke-free environment in Ninh Binh province"

On November 11, the Provincial Center for Disease Control (Department of Health) in coordination with the Center for Health and Population Initiatives and a number of departments, branches, and localities deployed the Project "Strengthening provincial leadership in law enforcement on tobacco harm prevention and control for a smoke-free environment in Ninh Binh province" in 2025-2026 in Hoa Lu ward (referred to as the Project).

Representatives of the Provincial Center for Disease Control deployed the contents of the Project.

At the conference, the leaders of the Provincial Center for Disease Control presented 4 specific objectives of the Project. These are: Improving the planning, implementation and coordination of activities related to tobacco harm prevention and control by key stakeholders in the province; strengthening the enforcement of the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control; increasing the coverage of smoke-free models in tourist areas and restaurants; ensuring the effectiveness of monitoring and evaluating smoke-free tourist areas, restaurants and hotels. At the same time, the specific activities that will be deployed to effectively implement each objective of the Project were outlined.

The conference also focused on discussing and clarifying a number of main contents such as: Assessing the current status of implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms in the province, especially in key tourist areas and destinations; proposing inter-sectoral coordination solutions to build, maintain and replicate the model of a smoke-free tourism environment; promoting communication to change behavior, raising awareness of people, tourists and workers in the tourism sector about the harmful effects of tobacco...

In recent years, the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco in our province has had remarkable changes. However, the reality shows that the rate of smoking among men is still high, and smoking in public places, especially at tourist attractions, still exists. This not only affects public health but also affects the image of civilized and friendly tourism in Ninh Binh province.

The implementation of the Project aims to strengthen the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels; raise awareness, responsibility and participation of the whole society, especially the tourism and cultural sectors and tourism service businesses in implementing a smoke-free tourism environment. Thereby, contributing significantly to enhancing the image of the destination, in line with the sustainable and civilized development trend of Ninh Binh province.
