Effective implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Thailand

(CPV) – At the meeting between President of the Thai National Assembly Wan Muhamad Noor Matha and President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man , the two National Assembly Chairmen agreed on the need to coordinate in monitoring the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries and effectively implement the signed cooperation agreement between the two National Assemblies.

Within the framework of attending the 45th AIPA General Assembly, on the afternoon of October 19, in the capital Vientiane (Laos), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Chairman of the Thai National Assembly Wan Muhamad Noor Matha.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was delighted to meet the Speaker of the Thai National Assembly on the occasion of attending the 45th AIPA General Assembly; congratulated the Thai National Assembly on the completion of the Senate on July 23. The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership, and together strives to upgrade the relationship between the two countries to a new level.

The National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnam-Thailand trade in the first 8 months of 2024 reached 13 billion USD, an increase of 8.6% over the same period; he hoped that both sides would strive to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to the target of 25 billion USD in a balanced direction, through limiting trade barriers, facilitating further opening of commodity markets, removing obstacles and enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Along with the good relations between the two countries, the National Assembly Chairman was pleased to see that the relationship between the legislative bodies of the two countries has been continuously strengthened and developed well. The two sides have signed a Cooperation Agreement between the two National Assemblies for the period 2023-2028 and have many solutions to promote and deepen the contents of cooperation in the coming time.

With the goal of bringing the Vietnam-Thailand relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in the spirit of the Cooperation Agreement between the two National Assemblies signed in December 2023, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the two sides continue to increase the exchange of high-level delegations and all-level delegations, and groups of parliamentarians to share experiences between the two legislative bodies.

Speaker of the Thai National Assembly Wan Muhamad Noor Matha congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements, especially the results of attracting foreign investment, including from Thai investors. The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly said that there are currently more than 100,000 Vietnamese people living and studying in Thailand, making many important contributions to the socio-economic development of Thailand. On this occasion, Speaker of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man thanked the Thai National Assembly and Government for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

At the meeting, the two National Assembly Chairmen said that in 2025, the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations; they hope that there will be many practical activities to celebrate this important event. The two National Assembly Chairmen agreed on the need to coordinate in monitoring the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries; and effectively implement the signed Cooperation Agreement between the two National Assemblies. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the Thai National Assembly continue to pay attention to and support cooperation between the two countries at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, AIPA, ASEAN and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.

The two National Assembly leaders stressed that both sides need to support ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue, ensuring peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the region on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
