(E-Portal) On September 17, 2024, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong chaired a working session with departments, localities and Slow Vietnam Company Limited on the implementation of the project to build a chain linking production with consumption of coffee products in the province.

Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong concluded the working session.

Slow Vietnam is a commercial partner participating in the project "Economic coffee production and natural forest improvement in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province" (PFFP), funded by the Danish government, according to Decision No. 1928/QD-UBND of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province issued on August 28, 2023, including supporting farmers to convert farming methods from monoculture to agroforestry and achieve organic certification according to European standards, building a sustainable supply chain with farmers and cooperatives, processing units in Huong Hoa district.

The project's goal in the period of 2023 - 2027, as a commercial partner of the project, Slow Vietnam will produce, process and export 1,000 tons of Arabica coffee beans; develop a chain linking 2,000 farmers; convert 2,500 hectares to agroforestry farming methods; increase household income by 40%; 18,000 hectares of natural forest in the biodiversity corridor between Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve and Dakrong Nature Reserve are effectively protected...

To achieve the above goal, in 2024, Slow Vietnam will build a factory to process rice coffee into green coffee in Nam Dong Ha Industrial Park. Depending on the actual situation and business strategy, Slow Vietnam will consider upgrading and expanding the factory to process rice coffee into green coffee and deep processing of finished coffee products.

In 2025, a fresh coffee processing factory will be built in Huong Hoa district to proactively source raw materials and develop a sustainable supply chain...

At the meeting, the departments discussed some difficulties in the project implementation process: Investment procedures to speed up the construction progress of the Arabica coffee processing factory in Nam Dong Ha Industrial Park; the number of farmers registered to supply and the volume of fresh coffee berries to Slow Vietnam is very small, accounting for 20% of the target in the 2024 crop year; difficulties in identifying processing units as cooperatives and local processing enterprises introduced by the PFFP project; location to build a fresh coffee berry processing factory in Huong Hoa district in 2025...

In his concluding remarks, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong acknowledged the contributions of Slow Vietnam in the province in the past time in implementing the construction of a chain linking production and consumption of coffee products.

To continue accompanying enterprises in implementing projects, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant departments and localities to accompany, support and guide investors in procedures for land lease and investment licensing to soon put the Arabica Coffee Processing Factory in Nam Dong Ha Industrial Park into operation in 2024; support cooperatives and enterprises in Huong Hoa district to complete procedures for environmental licenses and land use planning to ensure eligibility to participate in the linkage to supply coffee products to Slow Vietnam.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside over and coordinate with localities and investors to review the needs of cooperatives, enterprises, and individual coffee-growing households to guide and complete the appraisal and approval documents for the association plan to ensure compliance with regulations. In addition, Huong Hoa district urgently reviewed the planning, found a location that met the standards to create conditions for Slow Vietnam to carry out investment procedures for the fresh coffee processing factory.
