Since the opening of the first course of the Indochina College of Fine Arts in November 1925, this first academic fine arts school in Indochina has become the cradle of many generations of talented fine arts creators and researchers for the country and has made an important contribution to the creation of modern Vietnamese fine arts.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasized: “Today's exhibition is a vivid testament to the 100-year journey of formation and development of the school. Each work on display is the crystallization of talent, passion and creative aspiration, while reflecting the typical characteristics and artistic values of each historical period in the development of Vietnamese fine arts. This is not only the pride of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, but also a precious cultural asset of the nation, demonstrating the confidence, mettle and integration spirit of Vietnamese art in the global flow”.
Most of the paintings and sculptures on display in the exhibition are rare or never published. The exhibition introduces 150 paintings, sculptures and reliefs from the collection of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, with contributions from the A&V Foundation and the family of artist Ngo Manh Lan.
The works are presented with a variety of materials and rich forms, telling the fullest possible story about the training journey of the School. This is the first time after 100 years of formation and development, through the creations of teachers and students of generations from the Indochina Fine Arts School to the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, they have gathered in an exhibition to create together the sweet tones of colors and shapes, of emotions, intelligence and spirit to create a modern fine art imbued with the national identity of Vietnam.
The exhibition runs until November 22.
