The exhibition is part of a series of cultural activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Poland and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

“The Formation of Identity” by artist Minh Dam is one of the distinctive voices of contemporary watercolor painting, with more than 20 years of practicing and developing art from Vietnam to Europe.

The event showcased more than 200 representative works created by Minh Dam in different periods, from 2005 to the present. This is the first time that his series of paintings spanning two decades have been systematically introduced in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, artist Minh Dam said, “Forming Identity” is not only about Vietnam and Poland, but more broadly, about the experiences of people on the move in the era of globalization.

“Before, I felt divided between two worlds , like I didn't really belong anywhere. Now, I see multiculturalism as a bridge. " It helps me understand others, connect cultures and understand myself better. Multiculturalism is not a burden but a strength," artist Minh Dam emphasized.

Painter Minh Dam speaks at the exhibition.

In many of Minh Dam's paintings, the main character is not a specific image but a dominant color, an atmosphere, a movement of light or a thin layer of smoke, elusive elements, but become the soul of the painting under the artistic brush.

His paintings do not require the viewer to guess or read. On the contrary, they unfold slowly and naturally. Each light layer of color, each patch of color, each area of light and dark is static, automatically evoking emotions when the viewer looks at it long enough.

The exhibition gives viewers the opportunity to clearly observe the transition in artist Minh Dam's artistic practice from technique to emotion; from image to color; from space to memory; from the first years full of innocence to the mature, thoughtful stage. This is also a slice of the artist's maturation process where each painting is like a chapter of a watercolor narrative book.

The exhibition "Formation of Identity" takes place from December 9 to December 26, 2025 at Thai Hoc Area (Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam).
