The speech of the ARP General Representative immediately received applause from Vietnamese and international filmmakers present at the seminar, within the framework of the "Vietnam Cinema Week - Journey of Light" taking place at the Vietnam Cultural Center in France from December 4 to 13, 2025. This is one of the highlights of the program, contributing to expanding the space for in-depth exchange between filmmakers of the two countries on the development orientation and international integration of Vietnamese cinema in the new context.
Vietnamese cinema is making significant progress. Vietnamese films appear more and more frequently at international film festivals; the young creative team is maturing rapidly; the domestic market has recorded remarkable growth. Vietnam has also organized influential regional film festivals such as the Hanoi International Film Festival and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, gradually affirming its professional reputation.
In particular, in the strategy for developing cultural industries until 2030, the Government identified cinema as one of the seven key industries, creating an important foundation for breakthroughs and stronger integration.

In this trend, strengthening connections with developed cinema industries, of which France is one of the potential partners, is considered an important factor for Vietnamese films to expand their markets and improve their international competitiveness. Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang affirmed: Vietnam-France exchanges are taking place in many fields and the cinemas of the two countries are looking for increasingly effective cooperation directions, better serving the development of each side.
Mr. Mathieu Ripka emphasized that “Vietnam Cinema Week - Journey of Light” with many diverse activities will open up new cooperation connections between the two countries’ film organizations, promote human resource and technical exchanges, as well as production and distribution cooperation. Thereby, contributing to enhancing the position of Vietnamese cinema on the world cinema map, while developing sustainable cultural connections.
This expectation is further reinforced by the proactive integration spirit of the Vietnamese creative team. Young director Le Binh Giang, who has attended more than 20 international film festivals, expressed his desire to seek cooperation opportunities in France - a country considered the cradle of many world-famous filmmakers. He shared: When creating together, cinema not only brings artistic value but also contributes to promoting culture, tourism, and the image of Vietnam to international friends.
Many opinions at the seminar said that Vietnam has favorable conditions to form a film development ecosystem, from human resources, market to support policies. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Promotion Association (VFDA), emphasized: 2025 is the breakthrough year of the Vietnamese film market. The films "Red Rain", "Tunnel: The Sun in the Dark", "Fighting in the Sky"... achieved very high revenue, staying in theaters for a long time, of which "Red Rain" alone reached the milestone of more than 700 billion VND - a record for Vietnamese films.
Along with that, many independent works and young filmmakers have been noticed at international film festivals, reinforcing the belief in the new creativity of Vietnamese cinema. The recent successes are creating momentum to attract more investors and production partners in Asia and the world. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan hopes that 2026 will mark a step forward in further development, bringing about specific and practical cooperation projects between Vietnam and France.
The ARP General Representative said that France has a wide distribution system and rich experience in exploiting the market. Promoting bilateral distribution will help French films get closer to Vietnamese audiences, while opening the way for Vietnamese films to conquer the French market and further into Europe.
These opportunities, along with the support of managers and experts, are opening up new prospects for Vietnamese cinema’s journey to the world. The aspiration to have a Vietnamese-French co-production film competing for an Oscar, as suggested by the ARP General Representative, is no longer too far-fetched if the cooperation strategies are effectively realized in the coming time./.
