Although it has just begun, the flowers blooming on the idle fields have opened up new prospects: not only creating livelihoods for local people, but also promising to form a unique local tourist experience.
On the rice field, taking advantage of the off-season, Mr. Hien's family tried growing buckwheat flowers for the first time. Planted since the beginning of November, the buckwheat flowers have now bloomed, opening up prospects for an agricultural model combined with experiential tourism in Phong Du Thuong.

Phong Du Thuong is a mountainous commune, 97% of the population is ethnic minorities, and their livelihoods mainly depend on agriculture. In 2025, the locality will coordinate with the Japan - Vietnam Culinary Association to plant 5.2 hectares of buckwheat flowers in 4 villages: Khe Tau, Cao Son, Khe Mang and Ban Lung.
The enterprise, the locality and the people signed a commitment. People were trained in flower planting and care techniques, and provided with seeds, fertilizers and labor. When harvest time comes, the enterprise will collect the finished products.

Mr. Matsuo Tomoyuki (Chairman of the Japan - Vietnam Culinary Association) shared: "I want to create a new tourist route, from Sa Pa to Mu Cang Chai, from Mu Cang Chai to Suoi Giang. That route will pass through Phong Du Thuong. This place will be a stopover, helping tourists experience tourism services. In addition, when the flowers fade, we will collect the buckwheat seeds to prepare food ."
It can be said that growing buckwheat flowers is a model of great significance, both creating a tourist landscape and helping people access new production directions associated with services, opening up new economic development directions in the locality in the coming time.
