According to the European Commission (EC) Safety Portal, Toyota Motor will have to recall a series of Toyota and Lexus branded vehicles due to a software problem that can cause the Park Assist system controller to malfunction, causing the image from the rear camera to temporarily freeze if the vehicle is shifted into reverse immediately after starting.
In addition, the next time the engine is started, the vehicle may continue to not display images from the rear camera, which will reduce the driver's visibility from behind, increasing the risk of collision with pedestrians or other vehicles.

It is not yet clear how many cars are affected, but the Japanese corporation will have to conduct a global recall (with production time from 2021 - 2025), with a series of Toyota brand cars including: Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, RAV4, bZ4X and Highlander; along with Lexus models: ES, LBX, UX, LC, LM, NX, RX and RZ.
Previously, last October, Toyota Motor also announced a recall of a series of Toyota and Lexus cars in North America due to a similar error, affecting more than 1.1 million vehicles. The solution is that the vehicles will have their ECU software controlling the parking assistance system updated.
