"We strongly condemn the armed attack on Russian territory by the Zelenskyy administration under the control and support of the US and the West," the North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement, according to the KCNA news agency on August 18.
KCNA said Ukraine's move to attack Russian territory was a result of the US's confrontational policy against Russia, and this was pushing the situation to the brink of World War III.
The report said the US had given a "horrifying" amount of lethal weapons to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Over the past year, North Korea has significantly upgraded its relationship with Russia with two summits between the leaders, pledging closer cooperation in all areas.
In June, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a pact in Pyongyang on a “comprehensive strategic partnership” that included a joint defense agreement.
Earlier on August 16, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Ukraine had used Western missiles, likely US-made HIMARS missiles, to destroy a bridge over the Seym River in the Kursk region, killing volunteers trying to evacuate civilians.
Ukraine has also deployed British Challenger 2 tanks to fight on Russian territory. Russia insists that Ukraine's cross-border attack will not change the course of the conflict.
