The event comes two months after Mr Kim broke ground on another housing project described by KCNA as “another luxurious street of socialism filled with people’s happiness” in February.

In 2021, North Korea announced plans to build 50,000 new apartments in the capital Pyongyang within 5 years.

Since then, North Korea says it has launched a series of construction projects, some of which are still underway amid foreign suspicions of food shortages.

Mr Kim said the housing project was a long-cherished plan being pushed by the Workers' Party of Korea and the state as a "top priority", and he reaffirmed the idea of turning Pyongyang into a " world- famous" city, according to KCNA.
