The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported today (June 19) that the Pyongyang government called the accident in the military satellite launch last month a "serious failure".
Specifically, the report at the 8th enlarged plenary session of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) reviewed the country's development issues, especially mentioning the military reconnaissance satellite launch incident on May 31.

Those in charge of the test were reportedly “heavily criticized” for their lack of responsibility in the preparations. Meanwhile, workers and researchers were ordered to analyze the launch and prepare for another test in the near future.
Earlier, on May 31, a North Korean rocket plunged into the sea after the rocket's second stage failed. Pyongyang later confirmed that a technical problem had led to the launch failure. At the time, Pyongyang vowed to continue developing its nuclear capabilities to deter external threats.

The meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea also discussed ensuring food self-sufficiency by increasing the country's agricultural output and meeting its annual grain production target. Earlier this year, South Korea's Unification Ministry said the food situation in North Korea "appears to have worsened," Reuters reported.
North Korea is currently under strict international sanctions over its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. Its economy has also been hit hard by border blockades to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic. However, North Korea has also shown great determination in both its weapons programs and economic development.
