Shestakov had visited Pyongyang on April 16. The visit was the latest in a series of diplomatic exchanges after North Korea lifted COVID-19 restrictions.
The visit also comes amid deepening cooperation between North Korea and Russia, which Russia has rejected for the first time in 15 years to extend the annual mandate of the UN Security Council to monitor the implementation of UN sanctions aimed at curbing North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
On the other hand, in a statement published by KCNA, Mr. Kim Son Gyong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of international organizations of North Korea, said that the UN sanctions against North Korea are "illegal".
