In Tay Son commune, some villages such as Dong Tren and Dong Duoi are freezing cold and have frost. At night and early morning, the temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, making many households raising buffalo and cows feel insecure.
Mr. Ha Va Xenh - a resident of Dong Tren village said: "The weather has been very cold since last night (December 22). This is the coldest period since the beginning of the year. We live in the highest village of Ky Son district, so we have been significantly affected. In the village, almost every house has buffaloes, cows, pigs, chickens, and goats. Fortunately, since the cold started, the Farmers' Association of the commune promptly advised people to stock up on food for buffaloes and cows. A few days ago, everyone went into the forest to bring buffaloes and cows home, and had to light fires day and night to keep warm."

In Nam Can commune, Mr. Ho Ba Po in Tien Tieu village, who owns more than 40 buffaloes and cows, could not help but worry when the temperature dropped to the lowest level since the beginning of the year. According to Mr. Po, he usually lets his buffaloes and cows graze in his fields. However, in recent days, he has had to bring them to a concentrated place for care.
“Learning from previous severe cold spells, this year, when looking at the weather forecast, my family reinforced the barn by covering it with tarps. At the same time, we also prepared at least a week of grass for the cattle to eat through the cold spell. Every day, the whole family takes turns burning firewood to keep the cattle warm,” Mr. Ho Ba Po shared.

Not only in Tay Son and Nam Can communes, according to research, most livestock farming households in Ky Son district, especially in highland areas with cold climates such as Muong Long, Huoi Tu, and Na Ngoi, have activated cold protection plans for livestock.

Up to now, Ky Son is a locality with a large herd of buffalo and cows with more than 50 thousand. Learning from the experience of severe cold in previous years, this year the district has proactively responded from the beginning by instructing people to proactively provide food for buffalo and cows, reinforcing and covering barns and especially using measures to keep warm with the slogan "Cold weather: you cover yourself with cotton blankets, your buffalo and cows also need to be kept warm; you burn firewood to keep warm, why don't you warm the herd of cattle?"
