The historic flood in July swept away dozens of houses in My Ly commune ( Nghe An ), and caused serious landslides in many areas of production land.
Faced with the people's mounting difficulties, My Ly Border Guard Station, Nghe An Border Guard Command and My Ly Commune authorities have sought ways to help people stabilize their lives and restore their livelihoods on their own land.

The model of "Bamboo hedges protecting border land" associated with economic development was selected to be implemented in the 5 most heavily damaged villages of the commune, including: Xieng Tam, Yen Hoa, Xang Tren, Xop Tu and Hoa Ly.
Accordingly, the model was implemented with more than 2,000 bamboo trees given to 158 households whose houses were damaged after the flood. "Bamboo trees are a type of tree that has the ability to hold soil and prevent landslides very well. Not only that, this model also opens up a direction for sustainable economic development, suitable for local climate and soil conditions," said Mr. Luong Van Bay - Chairman of the People's Committee of My Ly commune (Nghe An), adding that in the coming time, when the model is effective, the bamboo planting area will be expanded even more.

At the launching ceremony, officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard enthusiastically guided households from planting to caring, managing and protecting plants. At the same time, they guided people to regularly organize environmental cleaning sessions, creating a green, clean and beautiful landscape.
The first bamboo clumps planted in villages in My Ly commune are not only seedlings, but also seeds of hope, symbolizing the will to rise of people in border areas after natural disasters.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang The Ngoc - Head of My Ly Border Guard Station said: "We will accompany the government and people throughout the implementation process, ensuring the model is effective in the long term, contributing to building a green and peaceful border, helping people have more livelihoods to develop the economy."
Not only stopping at planting bamboo, on this occasion, My Ly Border Guard Station also donated many practical equipment to schools and households in the area such as: portable speakers, convenient cooking stoves for schools and households, contributing to improving the living and learning conditions of people and students after the storm and flood.

“Bamboo hedges protecting border land” is not simply a farming model, but also a testament to the creative and humane way of helping people stabilize their lives, develop the economy, and at the same time contribute to building a green and sustainable border.
