The Trump Mobile T1, a $499 phone branded with President Donald Trump's name, has just begun shipping after nearly a year of delays. However, the product quickly became embroiled in a serious security breach.
Voidzilla, a YouTuber with 1.55 million subscribers, stated in a new video that the Trump Mobile website is leaking customer information through a security vulnerability. He himself was one of the affected individuals, with his shipping address, email address, and order information all being exposed. Credit card information was not among the leaked data.
According to Voidzilla, someone proactively contacted him to warn that his personal information was being publicly exposed along with the data of many other customers. This person tried to notify Trump Mobile but received no response. Another YouTuber, Penguinz0, also confirmed that his information was affected and subsequently contacted the company without success.
Voidzilla described it as "a very easily exploitable vulnerability" but declined to elaborate on the technical details to avoid making the issue worse.
Beyond the security risks, the incident also revealed embarrassing information for Trump Mobile. The leaked data showed approximately 10,000 unique customers and around 30,000 orders on the website, significantly lower than the 600,000 orders the company had previously reported. Voidzilla noted that this figure may not include orders for Trump Mobile service packages.
The T1 phone itself is not without its doubts. Initial reviews suggest it's likely a rebranded HTC U24 Pro with a distinctive yellow casing and pre-installed Truth Social social networking app. The box reads "Proudly assembled in the USA," a different wording from the previous "made in the USA" claim.
The T1 took nearly a year to go from launch to consumer hands, amidst constant doubts about whether the product was of sufficient quality for official distribution. Successful delivery was a milestone for Trump Mobile, but the security breach on the very first day somewhat dampened the joy.
