Hot weather in Beijing, China
Northern, northwestern and central regions have seen prolonged high temperatures, while southern and eastern China have seen heavy rain. The China Meteorological Administration has forecast more heatwaves in northern regions this week and said the peak electricity consumption period could extend.
The China Electricity Council forecasts that the national peak electricity load in 2023 will be around 1.37 billion kilowatt hours, up 80 million kilowatt hours from last year. However, if widespread extreme weather continues, the increase could be higher. In response, some industrial and oil refining cities in southern China are calling on residents and businesses to save electricity, according to Reuters.
